As a personal trainer you will be able to give advice on health, nutrition and lifestyle changes to your clients. You will help support them with their workouts and monitor their progress over time.

Our Lifetime Awarding Level 3 Diploma in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training RQF Qualification (601/3866/X) is a fully recognised qualification listed on the RQF (Regulated Qualifications Framework). It carries 52 credits which can be transferred to progress onto further study (e.g. a degree).

Requirements for Course Entry

There are no entry requirements for this qualification but some experience of gym based exercise is recommended and a level of physical fitness is necessary.

This is qualification also combines units from the Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing with the full Level 3 Personal Training qualification. This qualification is suitable for learners who have no prior experience or qualifications, as usually you need to complete the Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing before you would be able to commence the Level 3 Personal Training qualification.

So if you have never had any experience at all within the fitness industry, and are looking to work as a fully  Personal Trainer or become a fitness instructor (at level 3), then this is the ideal course for you.

Overview of the Fitness Instructing and Personal Training course

The Diploma in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training RQF Level 3 will train you to become professionally competent. It will allow you to prescribe, plan and deliver safe and effective exercise programmes and develop your skills and knowledge to pursue a career in personal training.

The qualification is designed for those who want to gain the skills required to offer both instruction and personal training, covering both aspects within the same qualification. Employers are supportive of this approach for their employees. They endorse this approach for staff that new to the industry, without qualifications - who will be covering both aspects within their roles.

The online fitness instructor and personal training course is made up of 10 units covering a range of topics such as principles of exercise, fitness and health, instructing gym based exercise, anatomy and physiology for exercise, programming personal training with clients and delivering personal training sessions.

Do I need to have access to a practical placement in order to complete this course?

Whilst you don’t need a formal work placement you will need to have access to a gym and gym equipment to satisfy certain practical aspects of this course.  To successfully complete these practical aspects you will need to demonstrate competence working with a number of participants (min 2) on nutrition, goal planning, exercise preparation/instruction & adaption as well as providing records and audio-visual evidence.  To do this, access to a gym or fitness setting and the supervision of a qualified instructor will be necessary.  This is to meet health and safety requirements as well as witness your work.

What can I do once I have successfully completed the Diploma in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training RQF Level 3 course?

This Lifetime Awarding Level 3 Diploma confirms that your training and subsequent credentials will be recognised by employers and clients alike. On completion of the Personal Trainer Advanced qualification you will be able to work as a fitness instructor, class instructor, fitness coach or personal trainer within the health and fitness industry:

• Work within a luxury hotel, health club or spa

• Join large chains, or independently owned gyms

• Instruct at holiday resorts or on cruise ships

• Go self-employed and build a private client base

You will also have the benefit of being able to offer your clients nutritional advice and information on a one to one basis.

What are the average salaries for full qualified Personal Trainer?

Personal trainer salary

Personal trainers are usually paid by the hour for each session with a client. There are no set salary scales and earnings depend on location, number of clients and whether the trainer is self-employed or works for a gym.

Self-employed (also known as freelance) instructors can earn between £20 and £40 an hour. Some instructors with high profile clients can earn between £50 and £100 an hour.

Personal fitness trainers in full-time employment can earn between £12,000 and £20,000 a year.

Can I join REPs on completion of this course?

On completion of this course you will be able to gain employment in any of the major or independent gyms in the UK and you will also qualify for entry on the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at Level 3 Personal Trainer status.
